Excellent work, as a scroller myself my next project will be portraits. I have
been told a series of ways to develop a pattern from pictures. Personally, I
scan a photo onto the computer, convert to balck and white, cut out the black.
What is your most effective way ????
Drop an e-mail
Peace to you and your family

Great idea. Which different types of wood can be used?
Light or dark wood?
Does it need special software to manipulate the photos?
Thanks.
- 10/31/2005 10:58:12 AM,
Kerry, Hi Giovanni, while any type of
wood can be used, I find the 1/4 inch birch plywood to be the best. It edges
the nicest of all the woods and is a light color wood. I have done pictures
with a darker wood (like oak) and they have not looked as nice in my opinion.
I just use a regular paint program to manipulate the photos.
Thanks for the note.
~ Kerry

patterns from photos and creating the beautiful wooden portraits. Kerry's
ability to create a pattern from 2 or more photos is awesome!

I am 71 and was looking for a new hobby last year. I read Gary Browning's book
on doing wood portraits. I have completed several since that time. I now have
the book and am trying to create my own portrait patterns but to no avail. My
daughter-in-law is into geneology and I thought it would be original if I tried
to make paterns of family members to saw. Can you help me get started on this
project? Do you ever make just paterns for sale? Please let me know if this
idea intrigues you.
